Salt Water Fly Fishing
Weigh West Marine Resort is considered the premier salt water fly fishing location on the West Coast. The sheltered waters of Clayoquot Sound provide the perfect setting for fly fishing. Beginning in May and continuing through October, huge schools of bait congregate in the shallows to feed. These concentrations of Herring, Needlefish, and Anchovies act as magnets for aggressive schools of Coho and Chinook Salmon as well as Sea-run Cutthroat Trout and other species native to the local waters. It's an unbeatable combination for great fly fishing!
Gearing Up
Bring your own tackle or rent our quality gear to join in on the fun! We suggest a good quality 7 to 9 weight fly rod with reel capable of holding at least 100 yards of 20 lb. backing for these large, powerful, fish. Fly lines ranging from 200 to 450 grains will cover most situations. Recommended flies include baitfish and shrimp imitations. (Please note, we do not provide fly fishing tackle as part of our package). Weigh West carries a proven selection of local flies and are available at our Charter Office.
Fly Fishing at Weigh West
You will be given an orientation soon after arrival. Then, on the water our "fishmaster" will be available throughout the day to show you where the fish are biting and offer any local knowledge or advice on tackle you may require. All inclusive Fly Fishing Packages are available. If you require any further information contact our Fishing and Activities Manager at the resort.

Weigh West provides the perfect fishing machine for the fly or light tackle enthusiast, with our fleet of specially designed boats -17 feet long, a wide beam for great stability, these boats are designed for two anglers. Each boat is equipped with a quiet and reliable 60 HP four stroke outboard motor, a GPS navigational system, VHF radio, and all safety gear.
Bring your own tackle and join the fun! We suggest a 7 to 9 weight fly rod or light spinning combination. Fly lines ranging from 200 to 350 grains or monofilament 10 to 20lbs. will cover the variety of fishing situations. A diversity of baitfish are found in Clayoquot Sound; needlefish, herring, pilchard and anchovies; your fly/ tackle box should contain an assortment of these imitations or lures. Our “on the water” fishmaster is available to offer advice and assistance to you.

All meals from the menus of our Blue Heron Restaurant of Dockside Pub. Our food and beverage facilities are located on the waterfront and offer a wide variety of meals including local seafood.

* Fishing packages do not include applicable taxes, alcoholic beverages, gratuities or fishing licences.
Deposits: We require a 50% deposit at the time of booking on the total cost of your fishing package to hold your reservation. Weigh West accepts all major credit cards for deposits.
Cancellations/Refunds: Weigh West will refund the full amount of your deposit (less 3% processing fee) as long as you provide us with written notice of your cancellation at least 60 days prior to the starting date of your package.
